The symposium is organized in order to give some applicative hints in the research field. First step will be to frame the criteria which can be used to define a research as “exact”, thus to ascribe it to the scientific sense. It will be also given the epistemological foundation of the research itself, answering to the question: what is the object which is known through the research? Psychology is also defined as discursive science, that’s to say the science which studies the configurations of reality as discursive processes. Based on that, the second contribution will frame the instruments which can be used to carry on measures related to the defined epistemological level. Finally is presented an example of research carried out according to the elements showed in the firsts contributions: the efficacy evaluation as survey of a “shift” of reality configuration. The presented framework shows how an exact managing of the critical aspects related to the research foundation allows to produce outcomes which can be used both at the operative and the theoretical level.

The paper identifies criteria which have to be adopted to define a research as “scientific”, thus representing a knowledge development. The argumentation analysis is the instrument which allows to distinguish between modalities of knowing ascribed to the scientific field instead to the common sense, where the first is marked out by “statements”, thus utterances which don’t explicit their knowledge foundation (common sense). When the utterance is founded on the argumentation and the explicitation of the presumptions is possible to recognize it as “assertion” (scientific sense). The use of a scientific sense implies to follow other criteria. The first is the epistemological foundation, thus to place the object of knowledge at the suitable epistemological level. The second is the methodological exactness, thus the use of theories and instruments which are adequate with the object as above defined. These premises can be applied to different science; in the specific case it’s necessary to define the position of psychology as science, according to the definition of its object of knowledge. Afterwards it will be possible to define a methodology which can meet the different applicative research fields.
